The best time to visit Vietnam

Frankly when planning a trip to Vietnam, one of the initial questions that arises is “when is the best time to travel to Vietnam?”.

Vietnam, our country is located on the eastern margin of the Indochinese peninsula and the elongated roughly S shaped country has a north-to-south distance of 1,650 km (1,030 mi) and is about 50 km (31 mi) wide at the narrowest point. According the geography and history, there are 3 main regions, Northern Vietnam, Central Vietnam and Southern Vietnam. Therefore the weather is also following these regions.

Northern Region

Our Northern region has totally four seasons, spring, summer, autumn and winter. So the best time to travel to our Northern region is from September to April next year in through the autumn to spring season. During these months, the weather is pleasant and favorable for outdoor activities. There are many exiting festivals as well.

The rice terraces are at their best during the harvesting season from September to October. You may experience some thunderstorms during these months.

From December to February, the weather can be quite chilly with fog and drizzles, while from June to August, it can be hot and humid with occasional heavy rain.

Central Region

This regions just has 2 main seasons as rainy season and dry season. The best time to go to the Central Vietnam is from January to May when the weather is mild and dry. The temperatures are not too hot or too cold during this time of year, making it perfect for exploring coastal cities like Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue.

In addition, the time falls outside of the rainy season, so you will have fewer chances of experiencing sudden downpours. Traveling the region from September to December should be carefully checked, as it is the typhoon season and the weather can be unpredictable and dangerous.

Southern Region

The weather of this region is almost similar to the Central which is dry and cool from December to April. During these months, temperatures are often more comfortable, with less humidity and rain, making outdoor activities more enjoyable.

The rainy season in Southern Vietnam is from May to November, with July to September being the wettest months. The rain can be heavy and frequent during these months.

It can be seen that the best time of the year to visit Vietnam is also different between regions. In conclusion, I recommend the best time to visit Northern Vietnam is autumn, winter, spring (from September to April) while the best time to visit Central Vietnam from January to Apr and the South is from December to April.
